Syd,

The best I can say is to find a shop where you can try all the various systems and go for the one that feels right for you.

I have gone for NCE for the same reasons as Andersley: It is easy to use, very intuitive.

Still using my Zero1,
As long as I keep both wheels and track clean it works fine for me.
But I live in the past anyway.

I'm looking at DCC carefully too and whilst I also know the 'select' unit is rubbish the 'elite' unit is supposed to be better, the bachmann hands free one is looking better still but at the obvious higher price tag. I currently have only one DCC equiped loco and that seems fine on DC at the mo (fingers crossed) but in all honesty my modelling skills are zero and soldering even less, so I'm looking at replacing the old (and lets face it useless) lima motors for the newer hornby ones as they come out and then getting the chips!
