Which I hasten to add doesn't make me right! As I recall my first Ian Allen Steam book was late '50's and Leicester London Road was already 15A then. Leicester Great Central was 15C, again as I recall and none of the internet information agrees with me on that! But there again it could have been 15E! I have both Steam & Diesel books somewhere, I'll try and dig them out to confirm .... or not!! At my age, it's easy to be confused! One good thing, this has reminded of many a happy hour spent on 'Birdcage Walk' with my binoculars surveying the yard & shed. All those Jubilee's and Peaks D1 - D10 passing through on the mainline! Although I wasn't so keen on Diesels back then. Max |

The dates I posted are from British Railways Steam Loco Allocations 1948-1968 by Jim Grindlay. He gives 15A as Welingborough in 1948; 1952; 1955; 1959 & 1963, then Leicester (Midland) in 1966. (East is wrong!)
I have a copy of the abc Locoshed Book for 1957 which lists Wellingborough as 15A. I only trust Internet information if I can back it up from other sources! According to Grindley Coalville became 15E around 1966. I can't find any record of 15E before then! Who would be keen on Diesels when you have Jubillees! Best wishes, John H-T. |

I can't find a Shed book, but I did find my first Diesel abc, (got to find the Steam one!) it was dated 1958 at which time I was 5! I just don't remember Leicester Midland being anything other than 15A. In 1966 I was 13 and would have thought I'd have remembered a change taking place at that time. May be not! I had certainly 'bunked' around the shed at Leicester many times prior to '66! Times were different then, you could disappear from dawn to dusk without anyone having to worry where you were! Perhaps just as well that my mother didn't know. Max |

No problems Max. It is just that there is a fair amount of bad info around and it is getting worse! I always try to go back to source material when available which is why I often quote my sources.
I also don't have a problem with being wrong! Too old for that! Best wishes, John H-T. |

The only pub doing regular "gigs" is The Dog (The Greyhound)Nottingham Road. The Brush is still there but not as large as it was. Lots of locos & HST power units repaired there. I worked at Brush (Transformers) 1971-95.(Redundant)
