The loco shown in the picture is actually 15 years old. Their new trains are based on the French TGV and are far more streamlined than this one.

As far as I know, the Amtrak Cascades is not a fast train as is the Alstom-looking Acela, it just has a different pourpouse: enjoy the trip in a comfortable atmpsphere, so I don't think one can compare a train like that with the future plans of trains in the US... and also, the Acela might be fast for US standards, but in european terms it isn't. The good news is that in the US they're starting to re-find again trains as a proper transport system, and that makes a big difference.
