Hello and a question...
Hi, I'm not a railway enthusiast myself, but have a question to ask and thought this might be a good place to start.
My granddad has been fascinated with steam trains and railways in general for most of his life, and worked in a signal box near Avonmouth for many years. Sadly he now has advanced dementia and has had to move to a care home. I now have his substantial (100+) collection of railway and steam books (some relate to railway modelling, but most are about real life steam) and need to sell them. I realise that there is a for sale forum on this site, but I'm hoping to sell the books as a job lot, I would be very interested to hear from members whether or not they think this would be a good place to advertise them, or any other suggestions you may have. In time (once sorted), I will also have a very large amount of 00 track, engines, rolling stock and various accesories to sell, so any suggestions on this would be welcomed too. Sorry for the very long post and thanks in advance for any help you can give. |

Shunter
Seems obvious, but I'd start by making a list of them - title, author, maybe publisher and a rough guide as to condition. Then a good place to start might be to get in touch with the respected Douglas Blades at Douglas Blades Books who is a well known dealer/retailer with a stand at almost every model railway exhibition I've attended. He is at 9 Hill St Ardrossan KA22 2HE (Scotland) on 01294 605666 and is a very knowledgable and approachable guy. I'm sure he'd give you a fair guide on a trade price for anything he would consider resellable and might be one of only a few who would possibly have an appetite for a job lot of 100 books. Mike |

Hello
Hello Shunter, well I wish you all the best with the books and models you have for sale, but please tread carefully, because there are certain people out there who will, given the chance, rip you off, as I have found out to my cost in the past.
With regards to the model railway pieces you will eventually sell, if you have a Stanier 8f in the collection or even more than one, I would be extremely interested in buying them off you and would give you the asking price and they would go to a very good home. Thank you. 48111 |
