Just a note to say hi. Long time interest in railways, but only coming back into it seriously after many years.

No, never worked on the railways but my uncle did (in Hertfordshire). For me it's just a keen interest; I've travelled all over Europe on trains, am currently working on a photographic survey of the railways where I live now (Kent).
