Bridges shut for railway upgrade (BBC News)
Three road bridges over rail routes round Winchester are being demolished and rebuilt as part of a £71m freight transport upgrade.

They really do seem to be investing a lot in railfreight at the moment. I see that at Ipswich they are planning a complete new Chord at something like £40m just for freight to go to cross country to Nuneaton rather than via London. On that route Bridges are also being raised for the same reason in the original BBC story. Trouble is, some of this strategic planning for Freight should have been done in the late 70's not 30 years later.

The cross country route Felixstowe - Nuneaton should be a lot shorter, so quicker and more environmentally friendly (use less diesel so less emissions )
