Thanks locojoe very interesting

In the first film it looks like a young Margaret Thatcher in first class.

Hi LocoJoe,thanks for the interesting link to Deltic.Maybe I can put into the mix my recollections of the prototype when it made its debute from the English Electric works at NETHERTON near Aintree Liverpool and onto B R metals. As was the case in those days many factories& works had direct access to rail sidings such was the case at EE,their link crossed the road into Aintree yard.It then made its way via the then CLC branch line which ran from Aintree to Halewood where it joined the Liverpool Manchester main line.I was in the signal box at West Derby station when it came through going quite slow I might add, what a sight as it emerged from the bridge hole I think we were quite stunned.I clearly remember the colours just as shown inthe film.I cant recall where it went to possibly to Crewe or maybe to Edge Hill 8A shed where it did spend time working beteween Liverpool Lime Street & Euston .Just as a point of interest a road between the EE works & Aintree station is called DELTIC WAY,furthering my belief it was made at Netherton. Jim

If you go to that, then scroll right to the bottom and click on HOME there's a whole lot of info on the Deltic fleet, don't go there unless you have at least two days to spare though!

Regards, 62440.

Smile Deltic Prototype Traintimes

Information supplied by stembok who is a member of this forum

Here are the traintimes when you worked on Prototype Deltic
108 Down Train 20:20 King's Cross - Edinburgh mail TPO to Doncaster.
119 Up Train 19:12 Edinburgh - King's Cross, from Doncaster Parcels.
The prototype Deltic seemed to be a frequent performer on this turn having already done a K/X -Doncaster return earlier in the day.
locojoe: Not too sure of the Doncaster departure time of 119 up as I do not have a WTT handy .The parcels left Edinburgh at 19.12 and I very occasionally saw it at Newcastle at just after 22.00? Allowing for any calls at stations -Darlington and York - on the way I imagine it might be around another two and a half to three hours for Newcastle-Doncaster so roughly 01.00 at Doncaster.According to the summer 1961 timetable train 108 the 20.20 down 'mail' from K/X arrived at Doncaster at 23.52, being a mail it stopped everywhere on the way. Perhaps someone reading this with access to the relevant WTT may be able to help us with exact times for 119. Around the time of which you are asking the 19.12 parcels into Newcastle was usually the 52A engine and men who had gone to Edinburgh earlier on the down 'Flying Scotsman'.
PS Little extra info found. Train 119 up parcels arrived K/X at around 04.30.
