Ok, so tell me, how many 86 and 87class electric locos are still in service on the WCML ?

Not many, Peter. 87035 is at Crewe Heritage Centre, and 87001 at the NRM York, but most 87s are now working in Bulgaria. There's a couple of 'sort of' preserved 86s, but the working 86s are the 86/6 series, plus 86501 and 86701 & 86702, with departmental 86901 & 86902 - around 22 in all, maybe just above that figure.

Thanks Dave, are you ok old mate ?
I tell you why I ask, because just gone 5 this morning I was letting the old dog out for a "pee" and when I was in the garden I definately heard an electric loco and I know it was the sound of a 87 or an 86. I would know that sound anywhere, they were the last BR locos I worked on before I finished. 48111 |
