Royal Train?
I got diverted off the A1 last Friday and ended up waiting at a level crossing at Carlton-on-Trent by the ECML. Slighly south of the crossing there was a train waiting in a siding alongside the mainline. The train comprised a rake of burgundy coaches with a matching burgundy class 47 at each end. I assumed that this must be a royal train but the info I've found on the internet says that the royal class 47's have been retired and replaced by class 67's. Any ideas?

I am not 100% certain but i think you will find that the 47s are finished with the Royal Train and it is all done by 67s now it is a shame because i cant stand the 67s . ccmmick

These were definitely class 47's. It caught my eye because of the matching carriages and locos. There were no logos or markings that I could see and the carriages all appeared empty of passengers. It appeared to be waiting to be overtaken by the southbound HST which passed by about 5 mins later. Thanks to everyone who replied. Looks like it will have to remain a mystery to for now.

Wasnt the Royal Scotsman was it?? They have been hauled by WCR for about 7 years now. It was repainted this year so may be a shade darker.. Set is comprised of mark 1's and 3's and Victory coach.
