Can I show my ignorance and ask what an MTU engine is.

How does an MTU differ from the Paxman Valenta engine ?

I can answer my own question with this piece I've just found.

I am a Valenta feind, but I still have to ask why Grand Central did not get their HST's MTU'ed from the start, seems a bit odd that they had to have an initial fleet non standard to the other HST fleets?

I wonder if they'll be "putting the buffers away" during this overhaul.

Sad end to a peice of railway history. Hopefully two engines can be saved for preservation, if a set ever makes it into preservation.
