This was a very unfortunate tragedy. My family and I used to travel on those trains in the 1960s and 1970s. The last time I traveled on an overnight train was around 1982. In those days it was cheaper than air travel and far safer than by road. The service was superb. There were 2 or 3 full meals served in the dining car (depending on length of journey). Early morning coffee was served in the compartment. There were clean showers and toilets at the ends of each carriage. What a pity the same journey now is out of the price range of a good portion of the population.
