Train guards in pay loss ballot (BBC News)

Train guards are to vote on strikes over pay on the East Coast Mainline as automated ticket machines hit commission.

I worked on pay trains out of Huddersfield, and on some turns you would only take less than £5.
We had excess books but a 40p ticket from Marsden to Huddersfield
did not make much commission.
It was the guards on the HST's out of Leeds that made the commission on the tickets they sold, and the mileage payments.
I only got mileage 1 time and that payment was £3.20p for 1 hour.

I remember on one occqasion when I managed to get £180 in one week on commission, which was nearly as much as my wage at the time.
I must admit it was an exception as I worked the Sellafield workers train all that week and we used to have to issue weekly tickets.

Happy Days., although hard work at the time.

A row over the introduction of automated ticket barriers. It won't be long before everythings automatic and computers will take over from drivers and guards.
