Why not?
If it's strong enough for scaffolding on high rise buildings I'm sure it's more than adequate for crossing gates.

Well we have lots of other things from the "East" over here now .

Bamboo is a widely used commodity all over the world, and dont forget Bamboo steamers for steaming food, I have got two, very very difficult to wear out, last for years.
There is no weather that affects it when it is used outside, frost, hot sun snow rain it can take it all.

Bamboo is really a wonderful thing, so many uses and it takes a lot for it to let you down.
