Whats in a name.

Is it true that one of the new Virgin Pendo's has been named ----" Penny the Pendalino"! that must have taken the publicity dept. weeks to think that one up. ------- if its true.

Unit number 390022 is named "Penny the Pendolino". I think it is a terrific name, at least someone has a sense of humour.

When you look at some locomotive names then someone somewhere does have a sense of humour whilst some have a sense of theatre Just think of all the names you heard of
as well as Penny there's
Eddie the Engine - - -66411 when in Stobart Rail
Bart the Engine - - -92017 Stobart Rail
Sybilia (D7628) - - - NYMR
Heart of Essex 31454
Cerebus 31459

Then there's the Deltics and Classes 37 and 40 for names
not to think of the Steam loco's

AND Now the 390's and Northern's 158's names

There isn't one called The Railway Forum (yet)

I would have loved to have seen Swindon Works take up the suggestion of naming the last Hall class 'That's Hall'!

Actually one of the LNER built D11/2 "Scottish" Directors, soon to be modelled by Bachmann.

I think Luckie Mucklebackit was a character in one of Sir Walter Scott's Novels. The loco itself had a rather inglorious end as a stationary boiler providing central heating for the Caledonian Hotel in Edinburgh, see photo in "Robinson Locomotives - A Pictorial Survey" by Haresnape and Rowledge.
