This site.
I find it a bit frustrating when people ask a question by starting a thread but then just disappear forever and are never heard of again!!!

This can be common on some forums when the poster finds the answer elsewhere so don't feel the need to return
OR They are Trolls just trying to wind people up

Sometimes people will have a question/problem on a certain subject & have been unable to find an answer on Google.
These people might not be rail enthusiasts & have turned to us to help them out I find this a compliment to our forum & it's members.

I know what you mean Ryston, there have been a number of occassions when I have spent some time doing research to answer questions and have had no response.
There have however been one or two "Golden Moments" when I have been able to come up with the answer someone is looking for and get thanked, which does make the effort worthwhile. Best wishes, John H-T.

Another reason why I love this forum; because the members are all willing to help and continue to do so without the need for thanks (though as John H-T said it is gratifying) It is that and the outright freindliness that keeps me glued.
Good stories good company and some fantastic photos, so all I can say to those who disappear is; "you don't know what your missing buddies!!!!!" Cheers Phil

I agree that it is a compliment to the friendliness and huge pool of knowledge available that people come to our site to ask questions but I'm unable to suggest why they then disappear, never to be heard from again.
Having said that though, I was doing a bit of railway research recently and came across an interesting (non-railway) site where, to cut a long story short, I thought they'd appreciate seeing some photos of the town where I grew up. Indeed they said they would but I couldn't work out how to post photos on their site. Someone then told me how but the process of setting up an external account somewhere then doing heaven knows what to copy/link to it made me lose the will to live. I haven't been on the site since. At least on Railway Forum we keep things fairly simple. |
