I always said that a crane was a winch on a stick.

Winching is for Horizontal moves such as by a recovery crew.
Craning is for lifting as in this case.

Whichever way you like to look at it, I guess the important thing is that this fine example will be refurbished! Very nice to keep our heritage in fine fettle!
