News Flash about Healey Mills
A little bird told me that Healey Mills Yard is going to reopen shortly in the role of a virtual quarry for stock piling stone.
According to what I am told this will be for 3 years. Another news flash is that DB have lost the sand jobs that go into the Glass Works at Monk Bretton. GB will be taking over, the cause is a derailment some where. |

The Sand trains.
Would the problem be that there was a derailment at Kings Lynn a few months back? That involved a sand train. Is Healey Mills still used as a redundant stock dump? I was in and out of there many times between 1990 and 2009 as we had a PW gang based there and also for track renewals in the area. |

There are bit and pieces of trucks in and around the mill but no demic traction
I went past the mill on Thursday of this week. My informant told me the sad derailment was due to a mis management of poiints. I am now off to look at the RAIB to see if this incident has been logged |

I went to The Mill in July 1982 and left in 2006, so our paths would have crossed many times, did you have the PW cabin in the Down Yard?
Happy Days, we may have been on some weekend ballast trains in that time. |

Don't know if it was Up or down but we accessed by the low bridge under the line near the box and drove down the yard about 1/2 a mile to the cabins.
4 or 5 of our relayers used to reside there building up track panels ready for weekend works until about 1996. |

At that point you would be in the down yard near to the metal bridge taking you to the HM Admin Block. Where you by any chance a Staff Segeant in the Teritorial Army? |

Did not make it to Staff Sgt
But did get to SGT There were 3 of us in the office all in the TA. Royal Engineers but all in different units. Last time I was in the yard was to do with the relay over the opposite side from the tower. The old UP Slow and L+Y lines Drove over the old bridge over the B and C lines exit from the Up staging sidings to get to trackside. That would be 2009 |

Your Cabin at the Mill was the Downyard office, and I recall talking to a member of the Army in the 1990's in that down Yard Cabin.
I used to use the shower in the bogs of the down yard cabin when all your lot went home. As for the derailment of the sand train this was due to a lot of track work not up to standard in the area round Sheet Stones Junction. I got this from the RAIB emailing the report for this derailment today. |
