Train journeys jump 3.8% to 1.7 billion in 2015
The number of UK train journeys made last year rose 3.8%, according to the Rail Delivery Group (RDG).
The organisation that represents train operators and Network Rail said there were 1.7 billion journeys made by rail in the UK between 4 January 2015 and 9 January 2016. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-35528234

It might be interesting to know what percentage seating capacity this represented. Such figures might show the DfT where new rolling stock is needed instead of their historic guesswork. The old question used to be; "How many people can you get in a mini?", now the question is "How many people can you cram into a Pacer?"
