Now there's a Deltic at Spa Valley Railway!

The largest and most high profile locomotive to date (steam or diesel) will be visiting the Spa Valley Railway in August this year - BR class 55 'Deltic' No.55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier' is to be the star guest at the line's Diesel gala over 3-6 August. The Deltic Preservation Society's loco joins previously the announced visiting engines - class 33/0 D6501 from South Devon Diesel Traction/South Devon Railway & class 20 D8188 from the Somerset & Dorset Locomotive Company/Severn Valley Railway - plus the resident fleet of class 31 31289 'Phoenix' (on longer term loan from Northampton & Lamport Railway), class 73 73140, class 33/0 33063 'R.J.Mitchell', class 10 D3489 'Colonel Tomline', class 09 No.09026 'Cedric Wares', Drewry 0-4-0DM 2591 'Southerham' & the class 207 DeMU 1317.
The 'Deltic' is due to remain at Tunbridge Wells West throughout August, operating Deltic Driver Experiences on 12/13th, working the timetabled diesel diagram on 19/20th and appearing at the Spa Valley's 20th Anniversary gala over the Bank Holiday Weekend of August 26-28.

Unfortunately 55019 will now not be ready in time to visit the Spa Valley Railway this summer. It's place in the diesel gala looks like it is being taken by class 31 No.5518 (31101) from the Avon Valley Railway.
Full line up & other details here: https://www.spavalleyrailway.co.uk/p...er-diesel-gala

Second time lucky

The Spa Valley Railway has announced that class 55 No.55019 'Royal Highland Fusilier' is set to visit the railway for the Summer Diesel Gala over August 3-5 2018.
The 'Deltic' was due to visit the Tunbridge Wells line over the summer of 2017, but was unable to visit as repairs were not complete in time.

55019 is set to be joined by the sole surviving class 17 'Clayton' No.D8568 for the August diesel gala, alongside the home fleet locos including class 33s Nos.33063 & 33201, class 73 No.73140, class 10 shunter No.D3489 & the class 207 DeMU 1317.

How will the Deltic will get to the Spa Valley? I'm not sure whether there is a main line connection at Eridge.

No there isn't a main line connection at Eridge, so it must be coming by road.

Third visitor announced - the South Devon Railway's class 25 D7612 is returning to the Spa Valley Railway having previously visited the line in 2007.
I believe there might be a fourth visitor to be announced.
