TV Alert: Tuesday 15/05/18
Hi all, just a quickie.
Date: Tuesday 15/05/18 Time: 21:00 Channel: Channel 5 Subject: A two part series about the Inter City 125 Sorry, had to do this in a rush and don't have any more info. Obviously this is diesel rather than steam, but hopefully it will cover the technical and financial difficulties of constructing a new type of train. My personal opinion is that the HST/43 represents the heydey of passenger train construction when the only things that were bolted onto trains were the parts that made them go. The trains that are being built nowadays are full of unnecessary computers and sensors, which invariably prevent them from doing the job there were intended to do. |

They do have some good aspects; although small, the cab is comfortable, and they accelerate and brake at a terrific rate, but we seem to have far more cancellations and delays due to 'Computer says NO!' Worst of all, whilst you're driving you are regularly bombarded with audio and visual emergency alarms to tell you ridiculous information like the CCTV control unit in a particular carriage is misaligned, the line interference module needs to be reset next time the train is stabled, or a toilet is full (we call that the No2 alarm of course). Cheers, BW. |
