Collision at Grosmont, NYMR 21/9/21
A collision occurred yesterday (21/9/21) between a diesel locomotive and a stationary rake of coaches at Grosmont, North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
Details are scarce (probably because it is under investigation by the RAIB) but it appears that, although there were passengers on the train at the time of the collision, no serious injuries were reported. It also appears that the rake of coaches (or at least some of them) have been taken out of service for the time being, resulting in the cancellation of the railway's Pullman services over the next few days. The NYMR's Autumn Steam Gala is still able to take place over 23rd-26th September as planned (apart from the cancellation of the Pullman services). https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2021/09...on-update.html Tony |

Thanks Tony. Good to know that nobody was hurt.
Might be something, might be nothing. The Rules for attaching require you to stop 6 ft short, and then ease up. If you don't stop, then by definition it's a collision. I had one once. I was booked to attach on arrival, and rolling in gently up the platform in the Leaf Fall I suddenly was blinded by the low Autumn suddenly appearing right in front of me as I cleared the platform canopy. It completely threw me for a second. I thought I had the brake in a gentle Step 1 setting, and it turns out I didn't. Kabooom. A hell of a bang - but the passengers didn't even notice. So it can't have been that bad. I reported it to my manager, and the Tightlock coupling was checked over by an RST. Because the download showed me approaching at less than 5 mph and no damage was done I didn't get my name put on the 'Wall of Shame' (Incident Notice Board). Which was nice. Cheers, John |

Apparently the class 20 diesel was travelling at around 10mph when it collided with the coaches, resulting in five passengers sustaining minor injuries. The RAIB has completed it's preliminary investigation & will produce a Safety Digest "in the coming weeks".
