Ashland Mass USA old train station

Although the old train station in Ashland Mass isn't handling passengers anymore ,it stands pretty much unchanged. It does house two small businesses now but is still a classic old New England Station. It has been replaced by a modern open air station a couple of miles up the track and the line carries passengers for the MBTA now.

I spotted these 2 machines doing some kind of track work today. I'm not sure what though. One of them would stop every couple of feet and some kind of mechanical clamp would drop from underneath and clamp together on something on the ties.
