As far as I can work out Mr Prescott was a great supporter of guided busses so bribed the Cambs Council with an A14 upgrade if they used the old track bed. They expect something like 14000 passengers a day or so I seem to remember butr of course that was the number of people using the A 14 in cars.
Pity very few stop off at Cambridge and now we more or less have lost the almost direct connection between Felixstowe and the ECML at Huntingdon.
Don't think many people ariound here wanted it either including the inventor of the guided bus himself who said it was not a suitable application of the idea. Since road and rail wheels on the same vehicle are common these days (LMS had busses like it yonks ago) perhaps the rails should have been used for that and kept the rail link in existance.
