Actually this thread has, since the price of scrap metal has risen, become very topical when taking the spate of metal thefts from preserved railways into account.
As for which class I'd scrap, well, after some long thoughts on the subject, I couldn't possibly choose. |

I'd choose the 'Sheds'. But I'd only scrap the wheels. This would render the locos unable to run, but still able to be scorned, sworn at, pelted with rotten veg, blamed for the ills of modern society, and of course painted in an ever-expanding selection of embarrassing liveries.
The 66s' newfound immobility would mean they'd be more reliably positioned for spotters to spot - unless of course they were loaded onto road transporters and driven around the country/world specifically to further annoy the enthusiast community, motorists, traffic wardens and the public in general. Special legislation would be introduced, assuring that anyone manufacturing new wheels for a Class 66 would be first jailed, and then themselves pelted with rotten veg – on an hourly basis. For the purpose of categorisation, the 66s would be reclassified as bus shelters. On those grounds, images of the 'Sheds' would be ineligible for reproduction in railway magazines, and restricted to publications focusing solely on people waiting for buses - if indeed there are such things. I hope this innovative and obviously quite well-thought-out idea is of satisfaction to all forum members. Just kidding of course - I like all locos. |

If I could scrap any diesal loco it'd be a 'Peak' they are ugly looking things, and I've never taken to them.
Well funny enough people are saying about scrapping the Class 70s, there actually one of my favorite locos along with Class 66, 67s, 20s. |

I really don't dislike them. I think that like many people I just find them an easy focus for the frustration of diminishing variety. Thirty years ago I found the 47s' ubiquity offputting, but I can't get enough of them now. Indifference-bordering-on-veg-pelting-fantasy is just the inevitable consequence of over-familiarity I think. Agree with you on the 70s by the way.
