Happy New Year from Frankfurt/Main

Hi everyone,

My name is Alan Lathan and I live in Frankfurt, the one on the Main River, not the Oder! I've been here since 1965 and have been trainspotting over the past 3-4 years. Previous to that I was involved in aviation. As a schoolboy my train world revolved around Fleet, Basingstoke, Reading and London.

I'm still a layman as far as photography is concerned, but with my new Nikon D5000 I hope it will improve. I usually find myself in Drehscheibe-online where I am known as Suedschau.

I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope that all your endeavours meet with success.

Hi Alan Im coming to Germany in the new year have friends who live in Cologne.They are going to take me to a museum cant remember where at present they said, its about an 1.I/2 hours from Cologne .Im really looking forwards to it going by Eurotunnel too .

Hi Alan, welcome & Happy New Year. Oddly enough, when I was just a kid, I discovered trains when the family lived in Tilehurst (Reading); we moved around 1957/58 to a small village called Hartley Wintney, which is quite near Fleet. Sadly, it wasn't near the railway, and the closest I got to seeing trains when I lived there was a boy in my class who's father was the stationmaster at Winchfield! Klein Weld!

Hello Alan and welcome to the Railway Forum. I to was mad on trains from an early age. Spent many a happy hour down at the sheds in Bulawayo in Rhodesia. I was only 4 at the time.
