Hello from Sarah

Dear Members

I wish we had found you earlier!

My autistic 19 year old was mad on railways, his particular favourite was The Flying Scotsman which he met a few years ago when it came to Devon.

Tragically and unexpectedly Jack passed away on the 23rd March this year and I now have a lot of train books, magazines and DVDs which need to re homed. They are currently up for sale on ebay but not doing very well so I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how I can sell this stuff. For train lovers there are some wonderful books and I don't want a fortune but just something to help with all the costs of sorting out the room Jack shared with his younger brother so it can become Alex's room rather than the boys' room.

I am so sorry to ask you this but I am really struggling and really want all the books, magazines etc that Jack loved so much to go to people who share his passion for trains.

Hoping you can help me.

Sarah

Hi Sarah, sorry to hear your sad news.

If possible, can you post a link to just one of the Ebay items and I'll give your list the once over.

regards Philip.

Ebay for sale

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333996260433

Dear Philip

Thank you for replying. There is a lot for sale and most of it expires today! I am very flexible on prices, I just don't want to totally give it away to a charity shop for them to sell it for £1. What I really want is for another train enthuiast to love them like Jack did. Jack couldn't read but had an extensive knowledge of trains and could just look at a picture and tell me what type of train it was, whether there were any still in existence etc. Therefore the magazines are mainly in very good condition. The only damage is from him carrying them around in his rucksack as he always had to have some to look at and I don't just mean one or two! Jack was autistic, hence his extensive collection. There are also some DVDs which I haven't listed yet. If the stuff doesn't sell then I will be forced to give them to charity.

Hi Sarah. I'm so sorry to hear your sad news.

I hope you can sell the items as you would like, but if you end up in a position where you are donating any of them to charity then you could approach a local heritage railway to see if they can sell them in their shops - that way it is still likely to be an enthusiast that buys them. I note that you are in Kingsbridge, so not too far from the Dartmouth Steam Railway at Paignton, South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh or the Plym Valley Railway near Plymouth.

I hope you don't mind me making this suggestion.

Best wishes,
Tony

Sarah, I had a look at your listings.

The books are quite general, railway wise, so unfortunately not for me.

I'm not into railway mags these days, the last lot I got rid of were offered on my local Freecycle site, and went to a young lad who was developing an interest in trains. I got nothing for them but it made me feel good.

I'll keep an eye of for your disc listings.
