Amerton Railway Steam Gala 14th & 15th June
The Amerton Railway Steam Gala will be held on Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th June 2014.
Our resident steam locomotives Bagnall “Isabel”, Hunslet “Jennie” and vertical boiler Wilbrighton “Paddy” (now sporting a smart new blue paint scheme,) will be joined by visitors Kerr Stuart Wren class “Peter Pan” and, from the Statfold Barn Railway, Hunslet “Sybil Mary”. We also hope to be able to make a late announcement about a third visitor, currently completing refurbishment, that has not been seen in steam for some years – keep a watch on our website www.amertonrailway.co.uk for the latest information. (All locos subject to availability). Road steam will be represented by Marshall tractor “Mascot”, which we hope will make for some good road/rail steam photo opportunities. There will be an intensive pattern of passenger and freight trains throughout the day, with trains running from 11:30am to 4:30pm and the usual locomotive line-up (weather permitting) at around 5pm each day. The railway will be open before running commences giving a chance to see the locomotives being prepared. Our 17 acre site provides many photo and video opportunities – look on You Tube to see some examples from previous Steam Galas. Our standard fares of Adult £2.20, Child £1.50, Concession £1.70 will apply, or you can buy an all –day ticket offering unlimited travel (subject to capacity) at £10/adult, £5/child. The Railway is situated adjacent to the Amerton Farm & Craft Centre which offers activities for children, a farm shop, craft centre & garden centre, a bakery and tea-room/restaurant (details at www.amertonfarm.co.uk). There is plenty of car-parking (car parking is free and there is no admission charge to the Farm & Craft Centre, although charges do apply for some activities). The Amerton Railway is located on the A518 Stafford-Uttoxeter road, about 6 miles east of Stafford. We are in easy reach of Junction 24 of the M1 via the A50 and A518 (about 45 minutes), and Junctions 13 & 14 of the M6. (Junction 14 is recommended, about 10-15 minutes). Additionally, we are pleased to confirm that a supporter of the railway will be running a free Leyland Leopard vintage bus service from Stafford Station to the Railway on both Saturday & Sunday. The bus will depart from the lay-by opposite Stafford railway station on the following timetable:- Stafford Depart 10.00 11.15 12.30 13.45 15.00 16.15 Amerton Depart 10.40 11.55 13.15 14.30 15.40 17.30 The one-way journey is approximately 25 minutes. Please note that the Amerton Railway/SNGRL cannot be held responsible if circumstances prevent the bus from operating as planned. Also, please note that the bus has a high step for access and no wheelchair space. We hope to welcome you at the Amerton Railway.
