The Hole
On September the 22,1892, a locomotive, a Furness railway 0-6-0 number 115 Disappeared down a Hole which suddenly opened up under the track which it was standing / running.I beleive it was never recovered but the the driver and Fireman jumped to safety just in time.
It was at a place called Lindal on the Furness Railway. I wonder if although it is many many years ago, there is a report on the incident somewhere, I can find nothing doing a search, perhaps someone can ??? 48111 |

The driver did lose his jacket and gold watch.
Have you seen this (scroll down to "Lindal's Big Hole") There is also a link to the Furness Railway report. Last edited by wyvern; 10th July 2010 at 13:43. |
