Personally speaking with the price of fuel at the moment TOCs should consider dropping the fares sufficiently to show that they care about ,
1, The travelling public. 2. The enviorament (prob spelt wrong) As lower fares would mean more bums on seats and that would offset the cost of the fuel, but they also have to get a better more reliable service to show people they mean business. E.G Up in Inverness there is a train leaves for Aberdeen at 0500 hrs and then 0557hrs the next service is 0843hrs, 2hrs 46 mins between trains is a joke. The first train thru my home town in the morning is 0730hrs getting to Inverness at 0841hrs. The same sort of senario happens in the evening. Up here its not like the bright lights of the big cities where there is a train or a bus every 5, 10, 15mins or so, so public transport is often a second concern to getting out of our cars. The onis is on the TOCs to take a lead and stop being so greedy. Just my opinion. Les |

Les,
It is not only trains that run to such timetables. We are mid-way between Huntingdon and Peterborough and there is a bus into Peterborough at 7.30 am, next is 9.30 am so if you miss the first you do not get to work. If we were right out in the back of beyond then perhaps some excuse but our village is right on the A1. Years ago there was a rail station at Abbots Ripton only about 4 miles away, gone years past as has the Home station so we cannot even catch a train without the bus. Bus every few minutes in towns but not out in the country. John. |
