Hello from a Maglev fan

Hello all and sundry.
I know Maglev is technically not "rail" but I would like an opportunity to discuss the benefits or otherwise in a sensible way.
Might you be interested?
Might I be allowed to start a new thread just for this purpose?
Thank you all.

Hello Malcwatt and welcome to the Railway Forum. It will be interesting to learn something about Maglev. It is not a subject I have ever thought about.

Thanks, guys.
My interest in maglev started with the UK Ultraspeed plan to build a Glasgow to London route. A lot of work was put into the proposal, initially backed by the UK Government. However, later on it was rejected on cost grounds. The proposers claimed the figures had been altered against them and in favour of HS2.
Looking at the current HS2 situation, I can't help feeling this was a bad decision.
Let's keep politics out of it, though, and discuss the benefits of their plan.
Would you like me to give more detail?

Being an impatient sod I found this Wikipedia piece about Ultraspeed.

Wiki tells some of the story. I have the entire proposal document available plus the correspondence challenging the £60bn increased estimate. However, even if the cost had come to that figure, would that have been cheaper than HS2?
How do I upload files and images? My files are bigger than the 19.5 kb limit I've found under the advanced tag.

I recall back in 1971 going to the Faraday Lecture in Sheffield City Hall with school.
The theme that year was linear magnetic levitated transport and highlighted the advanced stage of British research and development into the subject.
Unfortunately the funds were not available to take it to production prototypes and we lost a valuable transport technology. Such a shame.

Hopefully this link will take you to the UK Ultraspeed fact book, it's posted on a Facebook Group. I hope this doesn't cause problems of access.
