Smile Kato n railroads

I'm considering building an American N scale layout using DCC control and sound modules. (5m x 1m) I have been recommended Kato. I would appreciate any comments and advice. Atlas has also been mentioned, but they may not incorporate sound !!

Welcome to the Forum PJG1412. Look forward to your posts.

Most if not all DDC systems should support sound so it is really a case of which system you find most user friendly. There are a number of shops that have a selection of systems set up on a demonstration layout so you can try before you buy. I went to Digitrains, near Lincoln and spent several hours trying a variety of systems. I came out with NCE but it is very much a case of personal preference and how much you have to spend.

I would really recommend trying several systems to see which you find easiest to use. Any good system should work with any decoders including sound.

Hope this begins to help.

Best wishes,

John H-T.

Hello PJG1412 and welcome to the Railway Forum. As John H-T has said, it is better to try out different systems before you settle. Kato is a good track but it is not easy to mix other track with it. It can be done but looks all wrong. I don't think they have flexi track yet, but I may be wrong as things are moving so fast in 'N' gauge.

Smile Kato n expanded

I did buy Kato the "War Bonnet train set" as a starter, since then have expanded into a 5 metre double oval track. I bought the NCE controller with MRC decoder, and the sounds are delightful, my granddaughter enjoys pressing the buttons !! Also a AC4400 loco, with wagons.
I purchased it from Grand Junction at Slough, and they couldn't have been more helpful. I am working on a desert scene one side and mountains the other. I have attached some photos (I hope) more later.

Great looking scenery, PJ. You have really captured the look and feel of the Big Country. You won't regret buying Kato. I have bought quite a few of their locos over the years and they are always first class.
