Train crashed in Bromsgrove.
I presume the loco was a banker on the Lickey incline ?
A passenger train crashed into a derailed locomotive because a driver became distracted by "personal issues linked to Covid-19," a report found. The 21:05 Cardiff Central to Birmingham New Street service collided with a class 66 locomotive on 23 March near Bromsgrove station, Worcestershire. The driver of the locomotive was distracted by texts following the announcement of lockdown restrictions. Nobody was hurt, but the passenger train was significantly damaged. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan...ester-55018701 *

The train drivers' union ASLEF's policy is that it can't support a member who has been proved to have been using a moblie phone in the leading cab of a traction unit whilst it's moving. It's even run a campaign warning drivers not to be tempted to use their mobiles because they will lose their job. See the attached picture for a badge they issued....
Texting is a fundamental breech of both the operating rules AND company driving policy (for obvious reasons). Thank goodness nobody was injured. There's an ORR guidance blurb here....https://www.orr.gov.uk/media/18562 Last edited by Beeyar Wunby; 22nd November 2020 at 12:18. |

Yes Philip, it says in the RAIB report that:
"The locomotive had just arrived in the siding and was to act as a ‘banking’ locomotive, assisting heavy freight trains up the 1 in 37 Lickey incline, to the north of Bromsgrove station." The full report is here: https://assets.publishing.service.go...Bromsgrove.pdf Tony |

Sorry folks, when making the first post I had not realised this was a historical accident, my bad.
This accident report makes interesting reading, as do they all.

The outcome could have been so much worse, as they have experienced in the USA. Cheers, BW. Last edited by Beeyar Wunby; 22nd November 2020 at 11:17. |
