Greetings from Germany

Greetings from Germany

Hello Forum,

I am an expat (from Cornwall) living since the late 80īs in Germany.
I have been working for the German Railways for the last 22 years.
I also work at the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum.

My interest in UK railways is highlighted by my vintage Hornby layout
and the history of the Southern Railway region 1948-1963, with a special
interest in the Bodmin-Wadebridge-Padstow branchline.

Thanks for the warm welcome,
I am sure there is a lot of useful information on the threads,
so I have my work cut out reading "back issues".

Cheers, Bill.

You have your work cut out reading "back issues" Bill. There are 76,678 posts and 28,245 photos as of 15:36 this afternoon. Might take you a day or three to catch up. there is a lot of useful information as well as general chat in the threads. Some stories from the Deutsche Bahn would be very interesting.

A very warm welcome from me too Bill. I was stationed over in Bielefeld, and Hameln for four years back in 1970 to 74 in the army. Did a bit of rail travel during those years and found it very nice and comfortable.
Enjoy the forum
All the best
Phil

Hello Bill and welcome to the Railway Forum. Last time I was in Germany (Senelager) was 1958 at the end of my 2 years National Service.

Here's a photo of a German steam loco.
http://tinyurl.com/qffng5k

This is what John (Swisstrains) told me a year or two back.
This is a strange beast Alan. I have been looking through my books and apparently it is the fastest serviceable steam loco in the World. It is passed for 100 mph running. It was built as a test loco using parts from a damaged 4-6-4T and a 2-10-2.

Hi Bill,welcome to the forum.
I often stay in Bochum at the Achat Hotel (Starlight Express) on the Ruhrpark next door to the night club not far from the coal mining museum.
I must look up the Bochum-Dahlhausen Railway Museum next time I'm over there.
