SBB changes to policies - December 2005
SBB/CFF have advised a couple of changes of policy comencing December 11th 2005.
1) Smoking will be banned on ALL public transport in Switzerland, furthermore smoking will also not be permitted in areas of the station which are enclosed. 2) A surcharge of CHF5 will be applied to tickets bought on train, although class upgrades and change of route tickets are exempt. (Trains which are indicated as self control with an eye symbol are still subject to the rule that if you are caught on board without a ticket, expect a substantial fine) Also, France will impose a non smoking policy on trains from December 11th. Indeed, even Italy has banned smoking on trains!
Still, the carriage cleaning staff are happier! It is possible Germany might not be far behind which will mean most of western Europe will be smoke free travel (other than car). |
