Changing the front end of a train?

I was just browsing images last night as I had nothing else to do (what an original excuse ) and noticed a picture of 142002 -

Now: Now it's sporting a far brighter yellow than in the second picture above.

I was just wondering what reasons could there be for changing the front end of a train?

I'm all very new to being somewhat of a rail enthusiast so please excuse me if i've got all this wrong, i'm just being curious.

Hi Folos The only reason I can think of is safety, brighter yellow can be seen much better by track maintenance staff. I don't know much about electric or diesel trains but most of them have yellow front ends.

Yes the yellow front end is due to safety reasons. As for one end being brighter in one picture than the other note how the unit has had a re-paint into Arriva livery, its usual when a unit to have a re-paint that the front end also gets done. As for chaging the front end - aside from what i have explained above it could also be due to a fault in one of the driving cabs. hope this helps

Ah no, by a bright yellow I meant that the deeper yellow shown in the second picture had been replaced by a much brighter yellow, though the top and sides still remain black.
