Think that is lookng a great idea there. After all, France do have the fastest trains and I bet it would be much quicker now by rail than it ever would by aircraft over there. Hopefully HS1 showed this and all over here. How long until easyRail?

We'll probably improve but always be one or five steps behind. That's what it means to be British these days. It takes us so long to do the paperwork for one high speed rail link France will have built and rebuilt five of them.

In my opinion the only way we are going to ever compete wth the likes of France is if we go all out and have a completely new high speed line. Lets not kid ourselves that the tracks of today are going to deliver for anything like this, they are well suited to todays operations but would be a danger for any 200mph running. I just don't think there would be support for any developments like this, just hatred at the fact that there would be more engineering and building.

A resounding no. Ok we will have a nibble at it, but it is a long time since we took our railways seriously, if you compare it to the roads at least. To be perfectly honest I hope I am miles off beam, but I wont be holding my breath. Paul. |
