A hello to you all, tempered with sadness

Although I have been a spectator of the site for some time,I have never posted.
I have always had an interest in railways particularly around the North West of England, possibly as a result of my relationship with my Uncle Alan Thomason, who sadly died after a short illness on 13/6/17 aged 90.
He was a very knowledgeable man & was still able to recite signal locations, timetables, routes, junctions & many other related items of information relevant to the railways.
I believe he started work as a signal lamp lighter at Kenyon Junction in the 1940's progressing through various jobs around the Wigan/Warrington area before finally retiring as Area Traffic Controller in the early Eighties.
If anyone on the board remembers or has any anecdotes about Alan,I would love to hear of them.
Many Thanks,
Dave

Sad new Dave, I will mention it to my eldest daughter who works for a national rail company in Manchester.
Some of her colleagues may remember your Uncle Alan Thomason.
I will message you any details I find out.
