Deltic prototype DP1
As per another post today I was intrigued by a reference to testing DP1 with what looked like a converted EE locomotive.
I found a small reference to EE and "mobile test units". Quote "due to start trials on the Settle and Carlisle on Monday 20th August 1956, which lasted into September. Coupled to a dynamometer car with up to 3 mobile test units to simulate load." So far I can't find any details of what "mobile test units" were.

I found something else.
According to the text on this photograph mobile test units were special coaches that could be enabled by the dynamometer car to provide a varying load. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-diesels/50039922651

Good source for all things 'Deltic' related is this -
http://www.napier-chronicles.co.uk/ (just click on the opening page picture for contents) Includes loco histories and around 3000 photos........ |

Who remembers Loco Joe (?) or maybe John. An old member of the forum who was either driver or second man on Deltic when it was used on ECML or whatever it was called back then. He recounted many details on the forum but have not seen his name for a long time and as I believe he did have health problems perhaps is no longer with us however searches through the archives might return some interesting information.John.

Loco Joe didn't come up with anything about my mysterious dyno car or in the Napier - Chronicles. Perhaps it wasn't fit for purpose, or the shell was needed, or it never existed, but I am sure it did. Pictures only show the LMS ? dyno car with the Deltic. For years I thought Deltic was a play on diesel/electric.
