Train delays after fire at Maidstone East railway station

Trains have been disrupted after a fire broke out in a shop at a Kent railway station.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to the blaze in a newsagents at Maidstone East railway station at about 20:00 BST.

Operator Southeastern said the line had since reopened but there may be delays.
Passenger James Richardson, from Charing, Kent, said he saw smoke coming from the roof of the station when his train arrived there at 20:00 BST.
"They made everyone get off the platform," he said.


"The fire brigade came and were trying to put it out."
During the fire, train services did not run between Ashford and Otford.
Helen Grant, MP for Maidstone and The Weald, tweeted: "Shocking to hear news of fire at Maidstone East Train Station which is next door to my constituency office. I await further updates."

Sorry to read of the shop fire, and pity it wasn't the MP's office instead? There have been a Lot of fires around the country recently, but not all caused by the heat.
