Deltics

I'm going to sound like a complete novice with my next question, but I honestly don't know the answer. How many of the 22 Deltics are still intact and workable?

James

Don't forget the Deltic Prototype as well which I think is in the Shildon Museum at the moment.

Wasn't someone thinking of building a Baby Deltic a few years ago? I'd love to see one of them.

As a second man who worked on them I had one problem the train heating boiler which was placed between the two engines very noisy even with ear defenders.

Yes I was a second man there 1967-71 only did a few main line trips though as I was in one of the lower links.
I worked mainly on the old suburban & ECS trains using Brush type 2s & baby deltics.
Also did a few trips to Cambridge some times using a Brush type 4.
