Brunels Royal Albert Bridge Plymouth
Good evening all. I have only joined the forum to let you know something that may be of interest.
Sunday 3rd May 2009 is the 150th anniversary of the Royal Albert Bridge crossing the river Tamar between Plymouth and Saltash. To help celebrate the anniversary, the bridge will be open to pedestrians during the morning and you may walk the full length, (and back if you want), at your leisure. Completed in the year Brunel died, the bridge is still in use today carrying the main line rail traffic into and out of Cornwall. I am putting the forum into my favs list and will pop back from time to time. A Prosperous New Year to you all. Connor Last edited by Connor; 29th December 2008 at 22:09. |

Hello Connor and welcome to the Railway Forum. Thanks for the update on IKB's bridge. I did know that the 150 anniversary was on the 3rd May, but I did not know about it being opened for the walk across. I will do my best to be there for a walk across it.

Welcome to the forum Connor Having spent Christmas in Plymouth I heard that Network Rail are actually going to paint the bridge in rediness for it's birthday.
I only hope I can arrange to be in Devon for the walk, which is something that I hadn't heard about. At least it won't be walking on the ballast again as most of the walk will be on the walkway. |
