So its a death trap because somebody was trying to rescue a pet and was not paying any attention to the possibility of a train coming? I am sure the dog would have got out the way in time, and if it didnt then suerly the death of a loved pet would be a softer blow than the death of a child?

Aplogies for sounding insenstitive, but as a Railwayman the subject of crossing safety and crossing miss-use touches a nerve. Its a sad loss for the girls family but demonstrates what happens when crossings are not use propley and people tresspass. Our thoughts should also go with the driver and guard.
