What were your favourite loco's?.

Did you have any loco's that for some known or unknown reason you had a soft spot for?.

Beacuse they were the first two to be scrapped i had a fascination for 55 001 and 55020, Ballymoss 55 018 as it was the final one that i had seen to "class" my deltic's.

47 421 as i had it on my model railway.

47 484 Ismabard kingdom brunel....just the name got the juices flowing.

47 901 and 87 101 as they were unique to the others in their class.

46 026 again as it was the only named 46 (i think).

Sad maybe but these engines stood out for me, what about you?.

Hi Lee
My Favorite loco has to be the N7 0-6-2T it was the first engine I ever worked on as a fireman. The cabs were very comfortable plenty of room and they were powerful little engines, On the "Jazz service" leaving Liverpool Street we often hauled 10 packed coaches up "Bethnal Green Bank". I believe preserved N7 69621 had problems on the NYMR recently but in my day they were reliable engines.

Some of my favourite locos were the ones given GWR style green livery for the GW150 celebrations in the 80's.
47079 "GJ Churchward"
47484 "Isambard Kingdom Brunel"
47500 "Great Western"
47628 "Sir Daniel Gooch"
and of course 50007 "Sir Edward Elgar"

On the subject of green locos I also had a liking for the B.R. green Class 40's 106 and 122.

Hi John,

I forgot about 47079, was that not named George Jackson Churchwood and then later appeared as GJ Churchwood?.

Yes Lee, I'm sure you're right. I'll have a look through my boxes to see if I can come up with some photos.

I do remember seeing it as "George Jackson Churchward" when it was in blue livery. I think it must have been shortened to "G J Churchward" when they cast the new brass GW-style nameplates for it in the mid 80's.
Here it is at Old Oak Common in 1985 with one of your favourites

Ha! You can guess my favourite from my forum i.d.

But do I mean steam or diesel? Let's just say I consider myself a western man, much preferable to the midland!

I'm intrigued Dave.
Would you care to say why 47549 was your favourite?
