Dr Beeching actually opens a line !
I dont know if this is in the right place but shift it if you want.
Anyway did you know that the dreaded Dr Beeching actually OPENED a line ? "Yep", in May 1969 Lord Beeching (as he was then)officially opened the Dart Valley Line from Buckfastliegh to Totnes. So there you go. 48111 |

I'll make a statement here, Beeching did what he was instructed to by the Government of the time, did he got too far with too many closures? yes, But the real 'Villan' of the piece was Marples, who was obviously 'pulling the strings' for his own benefits, that reminds me, must watch the Ian Hislop programme on railways I sky + the other night, fascinating stuff!
I did know about the DVR reopening in 1969 though! Bulk freight was the way forward though, perhaps he got something right though haha |
