Also on Channel 5 on Mondays at 9pm, 'The Flying Scotsman a legend reborn'.
It started last Monday, but continues next week. The first episode would be available on catch up (My5).

Just starting watching it for about 5 minutes but what a dull programme. Maybe I should be bit more patient but is everything so dumbed down these days?

The thing that struck me was how the 'bright young thing' who was the NYMR's PR specialist proudly told us how she knew nothing about the railway, and "could only tell the locos apart by their colour".

To me that's just an indicator of the shallow and vacuous world we now live in.

She probably thinks that if a news reporter asks her a question in a live interview she can just say "I haven't a clue and I don't really care, but if you hang on I'll Google it on my smartphone for you".

/Rant over.

That's such a shame that she had no detailed or in depth knowledge about her subject.
Conversely it reminds me of an incident when my eldest daughter and I were visiting a preserved steam railway.
We were discussing Stanier locomoties with a very helpful and knowledgeable gent who insisted on using references such as "that's the big red engine over there" and "the little one that looks like Thomas the Tank Engine" to my daughter.
She didn't have the heart to tell him she was 30 years old and had worked in the rail industry over ten years on motive power projects and infrastructure for a major national rail company.

She should have told him M.C. Men who think woman have no knowledge other than house work and children are only showing how thick and old fashioned they really are, and that's from a 70 year old, (next month).
