Hope Springs TMD?

I have been building this for a good while.... It will eventually be the centrepiece of a new layout (when I get around to dismantling the current one). It's the biggest building I have made, by far.

It is based on a model of Wigan Springs Branch TMD made by the amazing Peter Leyland (he beat me to it), who I chatted to at the Wigan show, and who was kind enough to give me the dimensions of his model and I went from there. I have tried to make everything from scratch where possible (windows, vents, staircase etc) with varying degrees of success.... Those roof girders took a while, cut from photographic paper!
I'm pretty happy with it though. It is obviously nowhere near as good as his version...

Still a lot to do - obviously track needs to go in, interior detailing (lifting jacks, maybe a cameo of a class 40 being worked on, landscaping, and the boiler room chimney needs to be made.

Pictures in the gallery! Sulzers for scale. The pictures don't really do it justice though and certainly show up all the flaws!

Pete

A project of this scale, and in this much detail, could take a lifetime. Hope Springs eternal, you could say...

I love what you're doing. Please keep us updated with photos.

The interior one is excellent. You've got the overhead girders, lighting and pits all looking terrific -wow.

I always wanted to model Bricklayers Arms depot like this, but it's never got off the drawing board.

Best wishes, BW

I've added a few pics to the gallery. Finally making some progress... I wasn't happy with the roof girders so had some laser cut and built it as a removeable unit. That took some time! There is a bit of a lean on the left hand pit but I ain't fixing it now! I will post some pics of the whole depot when I've done a few more bits & pieces. There are light in the pits and the front of the depot, but I think I need to re-do the ones on the front, there must be a loose wire somewhere. I will get there...

Hope Springs external

No pun intended...

Some pics of the outside of the building. Got some more clutter (and a boiler room chimney) to add, then I think a bit of a tidy up, bit of weathering and step away....

Hi MeurglysIII,
By heck! Your model has stirred some memories. When I lived in Golborne I used to go spotting at Springs Branch nearly every Saturday morning before Network rail spoilt the view by putting up the palisade fencing which put a stop to lineside photography.
You have put a great deal of work into the model, it is a credit to you.
Regards, Tony
P.S.; Are you sure that the third rivet from the right is positioned correctly?

Thanks Tony!

Yes, I wanted to try & capture some of the atmosphere of Springs Branch. A few years before you I think, but I used to visit when it was packed with mainly 25s, 40s and 47s. I need to get a couple of grubby 08 shunters at some point too.
The problem now is I have a large layout in the attic with no room for the shed, so I will have to dismantle that and build something to accommodate it. A daunting task that I don't seem able to start!

My grandad worked for years there. I used to go to the canteen for a pie.
