It is supposedly GMPTE's decision as Stagecoach have a management only contract for the Metrolink.

I am guessing that the extra money might go towards the costs of the line developments in Bury and Altrincham.

If they keep putting up fares they will encourage more people to use their cars. I thought the original idea was to help keep some cars off the road.

But if the congestion charge comes in that'll push people onto public transport, and it'll need investment to be able to cope with an influx of new passengers.
