DEMU's
I was watching a video of the Southern region DEMU's, the ones that sound like a class 20 "chopper" and wondered if these were the only units of this type ever made.
What was the reasoning behind the design ?

the thumpers had class 73 type engines I believe and were designed to cope with non electrified sections around the sr to maximise use of available paths/routes was my understanding.

I am half interested in this trip. But due to the early start & late finish an overnight parking spot on the Saturday/Sunday nights and all day Sunday for my LWB van would be required not far from the station. Does anyone know the area well ?

Near Waterloo, you could try The Cut which is normally fairly deserted after Saturday afternoon. There's a market there during the week but that doesn't operate on Sunday. |

When travelling around there I always park at Bickley station (next one down from Bromley Sth).
Flashearth link...http://www.flashearth.com/?lat=51.39....6&r=0&src=msl Either Southlands Grove or Hawthorne Road have miles of free on-street parking and are about 100 yards from the station. NB. Bickley station doesn't have ticket barriers and is unstaffed. Cheers, FP |
