Hello - and a little help please

Hi there,

I'm in a need of a little expert advice if I may.

I am an 3D artist by day and have been asked to create a model based around a specific image and I am trying to get a little background information if I can.

carriage.jpg

I've worked out it's from the Jamaican Railway Corp.. can anyone identify who the maker or the model # is? I've tried going by the 520 number but not had any luck - and it's such a vast subject it's like searching for a needle in a haystack. Failing that, can anyone give me the sort of era it is from? I assume 1950's? Again, I could be totally wrong

With a little concrete information I can then research it a little further to make sure the 'mechanics' underneath (suspension, etc) are realistic and historically accurate.

Thanks for reading.

Jack

Hello mr_t and welcome to the Railway Forum. Not sure, but that looks very much like an older South American coach to me.

I can't help you directly, but I suspect that the car is the property of the Jamaica Railway Corporation which ran the island's public railways until the last one closed in 1992. The JRC still exists, mainly to administer the remaining assets of the railway and because it leases a few short sections of track to bauxite mining companies who still operate freight lines in the island. I have found these contact details for JRC:

Mr. Mr. Harold Brady - Chairman
Mr. Owen Crooks - General Manager
142 Barry Street,
Kingston.
Tel: (876) 922-6443
Fax: (876) 922-4539
Email - [email protected]

The JRC introduced diesel railcars in about 1963 but this carriage seems to be much older. I suspect that a few old passenger cars were retained after the diesel railcars were introduced, possibly for 'tourist' specials or maybe to run additional trains at times of exceptional demand. But all this is just speculation on my part...
