DMU... for freight?

Lightbulb DMU... for freight?

This is an interesting prospect.
By making one of these trains will be much longer, heavier and more productive.
Let me explain. Now electric is taking hold, deisel needs to prove its worth, so a double ended, power vehicled train should do the trick.
However if one is needed is yet to be shown.
Nice thought though.

yes that is exactly waht I'm talking about, mabe we could make one in Britain.
We could use old cabs from class 47 or 37.

We already have this type of vehicle in the UK,

Its called an MPV

Yes Les and a few years ago MPV's were used on the Cambrian Line as motive power top and tailing conventional freight wagons.
Although the trials appeared to be successful nothing has come of it.

O yes I remember now, they are used on track cleaning trains.

I dont think the European ones have been all that successful either. The distances they cover and the sorts of loads are easily matched by using normal road trailers. They are now turning out Mega trailers which carry a 40ft. and 20ft. contr as a drawbar so making the MPV's even less likely.

I was actually thinking about that recently

Those freight DMUs posted earlier look like (dare I say it) trucks on rails.
